Lynne & Fred's Home Improvements

In 2017, Lynne & Fred were searching for a carpenter to help them with some Home Improvements for their home in Steveston. Through a recommendation from Jennifer G-K, the project started in January 2018. Some of the Improvement items on their list included painting all the ceilings/walls, installing new crown mouldings throughout their home, all new interior doors to be replaced with 'Colonial Style' ones, and a bathtub faucet to replace without (hopefully) having to tear down all their beautiful ceramic bathroom tiles. A solution was also needed for Lynne's bedroom closet rod, which was continuously falling down and a fix for the long sagging shelves. The staircase also needed an upgrade and options were being discussed on how to proceed with the new stairwell look. All these decisions needed to be made before they were scheduled to leave for their Cruise Vacation.

Upon their return from vacation, Lynne & Fred were greeted with an upgraded staircase, new Maple crown mouldings in their kitchen, glossy-white crown mouldings that shined between their freshly painted walls & ceilings, and a new custom made Maple bedroom closet organizer. All that was left on their Home Improvement list were the new custom interior doors to be installed, once they were to arrive from the factory.

Lynne's Closet

Lynne had asked if a larger closet door could be installed along with some custom made shelves. We had discussed a few options and with removing about 6 inches of wall space on each side of the closet door opening, French Doors would be the perfect look. With a larger closet opening, the closet carpet would also need to be replaced. Fortunately, they had some left-over flooring from when they had replaced their Livingroom floor a few years earlier. All closet wall scuffs were patched up and it was completed painted before the new Maple Shelves and doors were installed.

Giving The Staircase A New Look

Outdated Stairwell

Lynne and Fred were tired of the look of the stairwell and after some discussion, we came up with the idea of replacing it with Maple Hardwood. It would be a lighter contrast to the darker flooring and would be an exact match to their kitchen cabinets, located just across the hall. There were a few styles available for the Newel Post & Spindles and with the help of the local building store, I was able to borrow those samples and let Lynne & Fred decide what style would look best for their staircase.

The New Staircase Is Completed

New Staircase

Upon arriving back home from their long vacation, Lynne and Fred were anxious to see the new look of their newly renovated home. The finished Maple staircase was the first thing they saw as they opened the front door and as they viewed the rest of the work done, they were pleasantly surprised on how much their home had changed while they were gone. I was so appreciative that Lynne & Fred felt comfortable enough to let me work in their home while they were away on vacation. I would also like to say a BIG Thank You to Jennifer G-K for referring 2 Honest Carpenter ltd. Without your referral, I may not of had the chance to work for a such a sweet couple I'm now so fortunate to have as friends.
